Contemporary art collectors–including Queen Noor, Martha Stewart, Anna Wintour and Russell Simmons–showed their love today by bidding $42,584,300 on 82 works donated by artists to Bono and Damien Hirst’s The (Red) Auction at Sotheby’s.

All $ raised will go to the The Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

A $2.1 million CA Dream House will be awarded at the Grand Prize Drawing on February 9, 2008 (as will 349 other prizes ranging in value from $300 - $25,000). All proceeds raised will go to Community Action Marin.

Price of each raffle ticket (the ultimate adult stocking stuffer): $150.

A Rumer Willis Polly Pocket doll garnered $5500 for the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation at the Dream Halloween Benefit auction in Santa Monica last weekend.

Community Action Marin is raffling off a $2.1 million house in order to fund its mental health, homeless, childcare, food, & HIV/AIDS programs. The 4400 square-foot “dream home” (bay views, chef’s kitchen, library suite, infinity pool, gated entry) is located in San Rafael, CA. Each raffle ticket costs $150. Elizabeth Taylor, who started the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) with Dr. Mathilde Krim and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). Taylor became an AIDS awareness & fundraising force when Rock Hudson, her friend and Giant costar, was dying of AIDS.

“I am not happy that I am sick. I am not happy that I have AIDS. But if that is helping others, I can at least know that my own misfortune has had some positive worth.” –Rock Hudson, who gave amfAR its first major grant (1/4 million dollars) before he died in 1985.

Amsterdam AIDS Ride. July 28th-August 4th. Bike by day. Sleep sweetly in a floating hotel by night.

Italian AIDS Ride. September 8th-15th. Ride through the medieval towns of Central Italy. Devour deliziosi home-cooked Italian meals.
